Trial Member Participation

TRIAL MEMBER PARTICIPATION

Establishment. There is established a policy to provide for expected minimum participation of a Clan Trial Member.

Purpose. The purpose of providing expected minimum participation times for a Clan Trial Member is to discern very active members from those who are potentially inactive or rarely participating on 1up servers, the 1up Forum, or other 1up areas.

Background. Participation on 1up servers, the 1up Forum and other 1up areas is a voluntary condition of active clan membership. During the trial phase, full members evaluate trial members to determine what vote to cast in a Status Vote. When a Clan Trial Member is absent from activities of the clan for extended periods, or is rarely available, it becomes increasingly difficult for full members to cast a vote to promote a trial member to full member status. Excessive periods of absence impede or water-down the 1up democratic process. Thus, a policy to eject, by vote, is necessary to promote the operational activities of the clan.

Quandary Review Vote.  In the case of a clan Trial Member who has remained inactive for a period of seven calendar days a vote may be called to determine whether the clan shall revoke his or her trial membership, or whether the trial member shall remain a trial member with issuance of a warning. The options available in a Quandary Review Vote are limited to:

      Remain     (Continue and Warn)
      Eject         (Revoke Membership)

The vote requires 70% or greater (majority) to pass.
If the vote is "Remain", then the Clan Trial Member shall remain in trial status and be issued a warning forthwith.
If the vote is "Eject", then the Clan Trial Member shall be removed from 1up Clan and the trial period shall terminate.

Procedure.
(a) Notice. Any person may provide notice to the Founder or any other 1up Forum Admin that it is suspected that a trial member has remained inactive for a period of seven days or more.
(b) Investigation. Subsequent to receipt of notice, the Founder or his agent will investigate the participation times or lack thereof.
(c) Vote Call. In the event that a Clan Trial Member's participation is found to be wanting, the Founder or his agent shall forthwith call a Quandary Review Vote.
(d) Time. The vote shall last a maximum of five days.

Retroactive. This policy shall be applied retroactive.

Definitions:

The term "Clan Trial Member" means a 1up applicant who has been awarded the 1up tag and accepted into the 1up Clan on a probationary period. The probationary period runs a minimum of 30 days up to a maximum of 90 days. The term shall not apply to any person who has not been awarded the 1up clan tag.

The term "Quandary Review Vote" means the Vote called in response to an investigation of allegations that a Clan Trial Member has remained inactive.

The term "remained inactive" as used in the "Quandary Review Vote", shall be construed to mean: (1) less than two hours gaming time on any 1up server or combination of 1up servers within a period of seven days; or (2) complete and utter failure to use the 1up Forum within a period of seven days.

The term "Status Vote" means the Clan Review Vote to determine whether a Clan Trial Member will be approved for full clan membership, continue in the trial process, or be denied full membership and removed from the clan.

"Retroactive" shall be defined for the purposes of this Rule to mean that the policy shall apply to any and all 1up Clan Trial Members from the date of approval.

Commentary:

Part of being dedicated to 1up is participating on 1up servers, the 1up Forum, and other 1up areas. 1up expects that trial members will remain active in attempts to show dedication and to make best efforts to socialize with full members. While 1up recognizes that a person will not usually be available every day, it is understood and expected that trial members will make vigilant efforts to fully participate in 1up clan activities and events. A lack of participation can be an example of a trial member who lacks dedication or long term staying power.

Tolling. This policy shall not extend the times-to-act nor toll the issuance of a Status Vote.
