Testing Custom Maps Tutorial
« on: June 25, 2010, 04:56:52 AM »
Seeing as I just sent this to Elmo, I thought I might post it here too. (It's written by me)

This works for Windows. I do not if it will with any other OS.

With testing maps: I will use this as an example: http://www.1upclan.info/forum/index.php?topic=4104.0

1. Download the file (which is the map of course) from the topic. It is under the post, in-between the person's signature and the post. In this case, it is called  ut4_FortFight_v1.pk3.

2. When a box appears, click 'Save'.

3. Save the file into Program Files/Urban Terror/q3ut4. q3ut4 is the folder you must save it into. (Check if this is the correct folder. There should be all the custom maps you have downloaded from servers in that folder - ut4_orbital, ut4_1upfun1 etc.)

4. Open up your game, Urban Terror.

5. Open the console by pressing the '~' button.

6. Type: /map ut4_FortFight_v1. This should load the map up ready for testing. If it doesn't, do it this way:

Open up your game, Urban Terror.

Type in the console: /sv_pure 0

Retype in the console: /map ut4_FortFight_v1. That will surely work.

Although if the map has .bsp Put it in the Program Files/Urban Terror/q3ut4/maps.
But if its a pk3 just drop it into you q3ut4
:D

Doesn't work for me. My urban terror is located in my "home" folder (is that what you call it? It's the user folder in windows vista and beyond. In other OSes, you simply stick it into the q3ut4 folder in wherever you extracted urban terror to. Although I used to install to program files, I now put it in the same place in both Linux and windows. Same should work for Mac. If you have 64 bit windows, the folder Urban Terror should have installed to "Program Files (x86)", unless otherwise specified. Since chmod seems to suck on windows I recommend installing to your home directory
