Reven, a Metroid styled Indie-game in development

Hey everyone, check out this new game I'm working on called Reven. It's been in developement for 3 months and we're planning a kickstarter around the beginning of December to help us finish the game within a year.
Reven is a Sci Fi 2D Platformer\Shooter inspired by the Metroid series, but with a twist; the player can customize their abilities on the fly to adapt to different combat situations and solve puzzles.
This is a very early version of the game, and it only shows some of the basic mechanics and Alpha Version level art

It looks really good. I'm just curious, why there is a DoT on the plasma rifle?

Looks really good, I will agree, but I don't see it being to different from Metroid at the moment, but I figure that's just because the game is at its base form.
