What if just one person in that theater had been armed?  The gunman would've been taken down early.  The general public need to reacquaint themselves with guns.  Firearms aren't evil.  People are.  And since there's no way to disarm criminals, law abiding citizens need to legally and responsibly arm themselves to counter that threat.

Sad story.

While I am not in favor of government restricting any citizen's actions, I do think a nuclear deterrent (i.e. everyone gets guns) is generally a bad idea and can lead to more problems then they solve.  I am in favor of people owning guns, under the idea that they should not be restricted from doing so, I am not in favor of it as a means of solving gun violence.

Perhaps guns for no one and swords and axes for all!  :)

With that said, I don't want to sound pessimistic, but people die everyday, and (while tragic) I feel like this is getting far more press than it should.

If guns were common place like in Switzerland that stupid kid would not have even tried what he did.. But if he had.. He would not have gotten as far as he did either.  Have you ever fired a gun Turban? They arent scary..

As some people at work stated earlier, very few people are trained in close quarters dark situations with many bystanders running and getting in the way, such should be made available as there are more than adequately available firearm training programs here in CO.
Also, the theatre prohibits carrying firearms and it is prohibited where all doors have the little sign.
If they allow firearms in, or at least have no prohibition ok carrying they can ne sued when somebody gets shot over a stupid argument also.

it's just sensationalist news reporting, the way the news is talking about it is completely 100% predictable.

Almost every article says that he used an "assault rifle", or some variant. What the hell does that mean?

"Military style rifle". Fact: almost every weapon the military uses can be bought legally if you want to be fingerprinted.

Body armor isn't like a magically shield. And most stuff isn't guaranteed to stop more than even a few rounds of small caliber pistol. Even just one shot would've still hurt like ****, and would've slowed him down.

At least 192 million firearms in America. So 191,999,997 were not involved in a shooting spree murder at a movie theater today.

2010 there was 8775 murders with firearms. So worst case scenario is .00457% chance that a firearm will be used to murder someone. It's been estimated on the high end that 1 out of 4 Americans own firearms, and that the average gun owner owns 4 firearms.
This would make it actually more like .0025% or 2.5 firearms out of every 100,000.

Hope I did my math correctly :)

Have you ever fired a gun Turban? They arent scary..

I have hunted with a small variety of rifles and fired a few handguns at firing ranges (That was more my youth/military school, nothing in the recent years).  I am not against guns.  I think the idea that 'if everyone had guns no one would dare use them' is a stupid notion and should not be used as a justification for their use.

I think a world without the need or desire for guns would not be a bad idea.

Firearms aren't evil.  People are.
Agreed.  I would also like to add that people are stupid, or at the very least, often make poor choices under pressure (generalization).
