Tank's Zombie Funstuff Super Pack! (Work in progress)
« on: September 17, 2012, 01:09:39 AM »

With the success of my last funstuff pack, I decided to move on and try something a bit more ambitious.

1up Zombie pack will include several variations on the vest and head pieces as well as multiple colors for the extra glowing "eyes" funstuff piece (because why not?)

Hopefully this will make it's way onto the zombie server to add a bit more needed believability, and also every other server just for the fun of it.

I can't wait to finish it, but I'm getting a little behind on my school work, so it may take a few weeks.

Micro update

Edit-(Every color from the mushroom pack is also available for the eyes, if you wanna run around as a zombie with pink eyes.... well... that's your choice to make :P)

I finished all of the color variants and took some shots of a few I thought turned out pretty nice. They even work on non-zombie heads! Ah the benefits of modular building...

Anyway, if these seem kind of bright and hard edged, well they actually read really well from a distance (which is important in games!) you can probably see them from across the map!

The blue eyed one is a good example of how the eyes blend in at only a short distance away...

I was considering also doing "pulsing" eyes that fade in and out slowly, but doing multiple colors would be an issue as it would just take double the models and textures to make this possible for every color.

However, I could do the more popular colors this way, I don't see why not.

When he puts up the download you will take the given .pk3 and put it in your q3ut4 (You could pretend its a map if you wanted to)

Nice work tank :P

maybe next replace the knife animation with a hand scratching animation (Making the knife invisible).

Just a suggestion: instead of having them look like they're wearing meat Kevlar, why not use the orignal style Kevlar and make it looked all banged up and broken?

Good job on the head. Looking good so far

Good job on the head. Looking good so far

The main reason for the change with the vest (doing a cloth look) instead of maintaining the original vest texture and geometry was due to the substantial changes I made to the original mesh and UVs. I've been debating on how to go about making the color layer, whether to do a vest, a tshirt, or some other type of clothing. The geometry of the new mesh can only change so much because of the deformation of  the torso due to the animations running underneath. This is why the new vest appears quite large to accommodate the space.

I downloaded a plethora of textures for combat vests and Kevlar, so I was considering making my own vest of higher quality than the original and having it as a separate option from the blood stained T-shirt (if it reads at all like a tshirt)

edit- Here's an image showing the original vest texture and my uv's and texture.

I could sample the original vest but all I would take would be that neat looking strap. although I downloaded much higher quality ammo straps, so this may not be necessary.

Also you may notice I had to blow the levels out on my shirt just to get it to show up at all in the engine. It lights everything so dark!

Okay I found a shader script online that allows me to use specular maps to DRASTICALLY improve the contrast and lighting on my textures.

It adds detail and depth to an otherwise boring diffuse.

Also I created a black mirror level for future screenshots. The lighting in dressing room was just terrible  ;)
