Portfolio Project 2: The Dragunov Sniper Rifle. Roughly 8500 tris 2048x2048 Specular, Normal and diffuse texture. This is my first gun prop!

maybe its me, but the gun seems to have a bend in it. like its not straight and the barrel actually bends down a little

no i like it, dont get me wrong. its really good work. its called constructive criticism. if i spent a ton of hours working on something and there was something wring with it i would want to know. i have been there when i thought i had a finished product only to find out there was something wrong with it and had to fix it. its better to find out sooner rather than later.

just because in general i am a dick, dont assume that im being a dick for a dicks sake. i have spent enough time around here i would think most people would know that im not going to bash people around here for no good reason. even though this was not bashing.

mr. chipmunk,

The slight bend in the overall image is from the camera focal length. This is a common warping that happens in real cameras and though was unintentional here, it's purpose is to add perspective to an otherwise flat image.

The gun is very long so to actually get the full shape of it would require a high focal length. which I will try today. I was told good things about the rendering program marmoset toolbag which I used to make these images, honestly though, I wasnt that impressed. I like maya's viewport 2.0 much more for realtime rendering.

I doubt evil was trying to insult it like he said, just pointing out how it could look even better (It doesn't help an artist if you don't tell him what he needs to fix).

This if the final optimized wireframe for next gen games. As you can see the Tri count is just over 8500.
This shot was in orthographic view to avoid any lens distortion.



Here's a closeup shot revealing some more detail. I'm not completely satisfied with the texture, but i've learned a lot from the experience, and I know what to do next time!

Btw total time spent on this project was just over 60 hours.  :)

When I was working with Flame on the XreaL mod we never finished a very similar weapon. I suppose I can show this video now. Don't judge us on this.

Tank will know this test map for sure because he made it. We got sliding, walljumps and ledge climbing done using this test map.



The second attempt was even worse.

Well that was what 1 and a half years ago, and still sniper has yet to get me my cookie.
