the /kill command
« on: September 25, 2012, 12:41:52 PM »
i was wondering why normal people can use the /kill command ingame.
using the /kill command, people can get really high ratio or skill ratio without real skill.
when you use /kill, your k/d ratio wont go down, and your skil ratio wont go down either.
is there any way to make people stop use this command?

I've been pressing the issue of getting rid of /kill for forever, or at least making it against the rules. Because like you said, it affects stats and such; making them higher then they should be when someone uses /kill like a noob every other death to protect their precious stats.

But Ron seems to think it's ok, so I don't think its gonna change anytime soon.

Is it possible to limit the amount of times you can use /kill per map?  This could prevent certain people *cough* MKS--->Elckaa'<3 *cough* from having over 250 suicides and suiciding whenever you shoot them.

yeah i would like the /kill not to work anymore , but i don't know if we can make it.
Networking works like this:

Client------>Server----->All Clients

Therefore if we were to deny the /kill command when it was requested to the server it would look like this

Client---X-->Server------>All Clients

So all the Client's Update info but the removed /kill command is implemented leaving him/her alive.
Been learning so much about networking the past couple of months its insane.

The things that can't be changed are the things that AREN'T sent to the server (The map, Client-side Models/Textures)
Anything that has to be sent to the server is changeable, since the server has to accept it.

Not saying it would be easy, but possible.

The problem with stopping /kill is that it would be hard for non refs to get a demo of a hacker.

well, to me, it seems like the best option to make the /kill command accessible only by server admins.

There is an easy way to fix this.

Under the 1up server rules, just change this:

#5. Spam. Do not spam vote or spam chat.

To this:

#5. Spam. Do not spam vote, the /kill command, or chat.

This would be an easy, time saving fix to just make it against the server rules. No need to write any code to limit access to it or limit when you can use it.

Who plays for stats?

I'd guess anyone trying to improve their game would watch their stats. It's a good way to learn about yourself.
