So far your shopping for PC's will come to a good end...  I was afraid you would just purchase the first shiny PC that came along.

Already made that mistake once. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01753032&lc=en&cc=us&product=3966262
I just gotta buy a mic with it.  Plus, the dell doesn't come w/ a network adaptor, which is about 60 bucks.
I've used like 10 gigs on my comp right now, space is np.
Just gotta make money now...

I found a new one with 1 yr warranty instead of 14 days.

http://www.cdiwebstore.com/index.php/off-lease-desktops/dell-optiplex-745-dt-d925-dual-core-3-0-ghz-ddr2-4-0-gb-80gb-cd-rw-dvd-gb-nic-windows-7-professional-32bit.html

same specs, less hd space, but cheaper.  Warranty is what I really care about though.

Edit x2:  The Lenovo ThinkCentre M58p Desktop PC that you provided a link to does have more performance than the first PC, but the hard drive is a bit small.  BUT, the ram is the latest DDR3 which means the motherboard is newer.  This means it will be a bit longer before you need to upgrade!  However, the smaller hard drive may fill up quickly, but there is nothing saying you can not get another hard drive at a later date.  Whether you are using an internal or external hard drive, it would not matter.  The second link is the better deal of the two.  Lower priced and best performance so far.

So far your shopping for PC's will come to a good end...  I was afraid you would just purchase the first shiny PC that came along.  Keep it up, eventually when you have the funds, you should have the PC you are looking for already picked out.  Keep up the good work on shopping, soon you will get the most for your money.

Downgrading the specs for a better warranty?  The Dell Optiplex 745 does not have better specs.  Seems odd, but if that is what you want.

As far as technical advice is concerned I have nothing to offer but one thing I would say is that if you plan on owning this computer for at least a few years you might as well save up and buy something good. Don't settle for the first decent one you find, wait and get something worth having for a few years.

Hey UncleSam,

The last link seems like your best bet so far, but as everyone is stating, do not just pick the one you think is best at this moment.  If you have the funds to purchase the Lenovo ThinkCentre M58p, then it is a good choice.  However if you are still saving money at this time, do not think it is the best one out there.

While saving money to purchase a PC, keep shopping, there will always be a better PC, no matter how hard you look.  Just do not get disappointed when you do purchase one, and find a better PC immediately afterwards.  It happens to me with anything I purchase, better deals come and go, but they always seem to go on sale after you already purchased the item.  Just saying...

Edit:  You also did not mention if you are needing a keyboard, monitor, and a mouse.  Some PC's do not come with them and allow the consumer to purchase them on their own.  Sometimes there are good package deals, and sometimes the package deals are a rip off compared to purchasing separately.  For the money as I mentioned, that link is a good deal, but for a hundred dollars more, there are much better PC's.  Find a limit to what you want to spend, and maybe we can even help you shop.

Better, refurbished and not off lease (so newer), reviews (which are positive), 1 yr warranty.  It's 50 usd more expensive, but I'm making money.  This is probably what I'm going to buy.

As I mentioned before, do not get disappointed after you purchase it.
You will find a better PC at a lower price after you do purchase it, no matter how hard you look.
As long as you can find one that will accomplish the tasks you need it to.  If possible look for these specifications:

Budget

4 Gb Ram DDR2
AMD quad core 2.7 Ghz / Intel core i3
Nvidia 9XXX series / Radeon 6XXX series

Preferred

16 Gb Ram DDR3
AMD eight core 3.5 Ghz / Intel core i7
Nvidia GTX 690 / Radeon 7990

As for hard drive size, it is up to you.

This is no definitive guide, but it should be a guide to help you pick something in between.

Quick Question Cope:
For the "Preferred" Section, what would be the amount that you're looking at? Just want to see what you're basing off of.

Preferred gaming rig, I should have stated.

However the minimum is not a requirement either, but then again, could it run the games you would like to play?
Any PC can run solitaire, you just need to determine how well the framerates you would like to have.
A Preferred gaming rig, is almost top of the line without purchasing the latest and greatest, extremely good, but was the greatest a little while ago.

Edit:  I was only basing the system on available components.  I would be guessing that a decent gaming rig would fall somewhere in between with a budget.  When one has more funds, a better PC would be purchased.  I never stated one needs to purchase anything, just giving low and high specifications for gaming rigs.
