new video card
« on: December 18, 2013, 05:55:33 PM »
so the time has come to do an upgrade to my machine  and this is what I think I will be doing  1st this is what I have in it , http://www.microcenter.com/product/398336/02G-P3-2619-KR_NVIDIA_GeForce_GT_610_2048MB_DDR3_PCIe_20_x16_Video_Card
and this is what I am getting for it , http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Superclocked-Mini-HDMI-Graphics-01G-P3-1452-TR/dp/B0041RRNDK/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1387400908&sr=1-5&keywords=geforce+gts+450+video+card , but not at that price I have found two of them that I want to run in SLI mode after I do this , http://www.altechnative.net/2013/06/23/nvidia-cards-geforce-quadro-and-geforce-modified-into-a-quadro-for-virtualized-gaming/  ,
just one of them runs at 57gb/sec so two would double that rt ?  I get like 8gb/sec now then I will max out my ram to 32gig and put on a new processor too
one like this , http://www.microcenter.com/product/401795/FX_8350_4GHz_AM3_Black_Edition_Boxed_Processor so what do you guys think let me know

I'm so pissed off at my computer, so I decided that I would upgrade as well.
I am tired of having graphics that just don't run well with the games I like.
In buying what I bought below, I tried to exercise restraint and to save money while getting at least 70% better graphical performance.

Yesterday I put an 850 Watt power supply in the box, removed the 300 Watt one.

Then I bought the following items and I am waiting for them to be delivered:

Upgrade of Ram (from 6 Gigs to 8 Gigs)

8 Gigs of Ram: Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX

Upgrade of Graphics (from 1 Gig to 4 Gigs)

4 Gig Video Card: GIGABYTE GV-N760OC-4GD GeForce GTX 760 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready WindForce 3X 450W Video Card

So, you have a GeForce GT 610 2048MB and want to put in a GeForce GTS 450 Superclocked 1024MB?

Why the downgrade?

I seen the specifications regarding overclocking the 450, but the only thing it would excel at is virtual environments.
I would suggest http://pcpartpicker.com to help you get an idea for what to get that is compatible.
Numbers usually go UP when upgrading.  I know nVidia was using 7xxx, 8xxx, 9xxx, and went to 2xx, 3xx, 4xx, and now up to 780ti, and TITAN.
According to nVidia, the 450 is not even in the class for entry level gaming. http://www.geforce.com/hardware

Cope57 maybe you don't get it  I  only get  8gb/sec bandwidth from the one I have now and if I get the gts450 I can flash it into two of these,  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133353 , sli ready and get the most out of the motherboard and ram I have

You mentioned you have a video card with 2 gb of video ram and you want to replace it with one that only has 1 gb of video ram.  Yes it is a physical downgrade.  However, flashing the card will give it Quattro like performance in a Virtualized Gaming environment.  It still does not change the physical aspects of the card.

I can see the benefits of this if you run Linux or BSD, and run some windows applications in WINE.  I could also see running Linux and running the Windows operating system in a virtual environment and playing Windows video games.  Having the Windows operating system in a virtual environment will have the virtual Windows thinking it is running a Quattro instead of a 450, but when not in a virtual environment, your card is still 1gb less than what you are using right now.

Maybe I have no clue what I am talking about.

Hey Ratt,

What computer specs? Motherboard, cpu, etc.
You mentioned 32 gigs of ram for your motherboard, but most 1/2 way decent boards are 8 gigs max.

I like that motherboard. You can put 4 sticks of 8gig ram in it. My board only goes up to 8 gig ram.

Well, my motherboard just won't run this card. Uggs. Now I need to spend more money to get a better mobo. I'm looking at that board you got, Ratt.

@ Ratt,

Right now I have:

MOBO: Pegatron 2AC2
CPU: an Intel Core i5 2320 (4 cores)

I need a MOBO with PCI Express 3.0 (my current one only has 2.0 and that is the problem, even though the card I bought said backwards compatibility).
