Here is what I would consider to be the best classic (ie. pre N64 / PS1 / Dreamcast era) game in no particular order and off the top of my head which I am sure there are hundreds that I have forgotten over the years since my collection of games is well over 6,000 atm.

Zero Wing for Sega Genesis

Castle Adventure for DOS, Microprose's Gunship for DOS, Leisure Suit Larry for DOS, Battle Chess 4 for DOS, etc.

Pitfall and Pitfall II for Atari 2600, Thunder Warrior for Micro Genius, Turtles in Time for SNES/Arcade.

I must say that my dad raised me to respect classic everything (see music reply lol) so tesla has an awsome list. u too coffee. as said before dos games are my fav as well as atari. beneth steel skies. that is a good one too tapper, joust, donkeycong (u know, the only game mario is in that isnt named after him lol) frogger, pong. I think at 18 years of age this is a purty good list of classics that I have actualy played. :p keep the games comin street fighter was pretty beast. king of fighters (95, 96, 97, 98, and 99). peace (-<)
