So,
I sailed to another island in my world. There, I set up a small fort/outpost near the shoreline, and set up a dock to walk out on and gaze at the sea, hoping to return home one day (I'm taking this sh!t srsly
). So anyways. When I went out to explore the island with my travel kit (3 of each stone swords, pickaxes and tree axes), I found a mine. In order to be able to find it again, I build a 25-block-high obelisk and went in. It was a deep motherf*cker and when I got out the other side I was totally lost. After searching for three game days I found my obelisk, but I couldn't remember which way went back to the outpost. It was dark so I set up a bed here to keep searching. I then destroyed the bed to take it with me. Morning came, so I chose a way and started walking. I found the deepest f*cking mine I ever saw and delved in, spamming a torch wherever it was super dark, and I couldn't find the exit (Newb mutch? :3). So, I took all the iron ore and coal (about 50 pieces of each) and put it into a chest. I then committed suicide by jumping into the lava I found. To my positive surprise, I spawned right beside my main cave house.
Lesson learned: If you get lost, destroy the bed you sleep in
