Recommend Drum&Bass Help
« on: January 04, 2011, 03:36:17 PM »
I got a few gift cards for Christmas, and I haven't kept up on the best records lately for Drum & Bass.

I did find one album I might like, The Very Best of Ferry Corsten (http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?EAN=4988064170821&x=). Yes I know it is Epic Trance not D&B. Was wondering if someone can recommend a good D&B album to go with it?

+5 to whoever recommends the second album that I end up buying.

Depends on what kind of DnB you like, if you like the more melodious stuff, anything from Hospital Records is a safe bet, be it London Elektricity, High Contrast, Nu:Tone etc Mistabishi is also on the same label, though he leans towards dubstep in some ways, Netsky also had a kickass tune in the form of "Memory Lane" which fits in with the Hospital style in my opinion.

Here it is:

Hospital do some decent compliations of their own labels' signings and other similar artists. Might want to look into those if you like what you hear.

Which also has some stuff from B-Complex, who did a tune called "Little Oranges" that was pretty kickass:

Takes a while to get going but a solid tune!
EDIT: Just noticed that B-Complex is releasing through Hospital :P Hospital FTW!

A couple of D&B artists I have liked in the past are like Talvin Singh, AK1200, Dieselboy.

For instance, I really like the track Jaan by Talvin Singh.

Paul Oakenfold has a nice track I like that is kinda D&Bish, Leaving Planet Earth:

I also like the stuff I hear on the D&B channel of Digitally Imported Radio (Di.fm).

As far as D&B goes, my favorites are always gonna be Andy C and Grooverider (prolly bc I'm old).  I never buy D&B (well, I never buy any music) because there are soooooooo many free sets and mixes out there.  If you want a ton of D&B, check out http://www.breakbeat.co.uk/  there are free podcasts (if you have iTunes you can subscribe to it)  that will give you massive amounts of D&B sets and mixes for free.  Check it out...

(Dieselboy is from Pittsburgh  - area code 412 -   LOL....  I remember when he was just some local kid trying to learn how to spin)

As far as other forms of electronic music....my recommendations would depend on the genre.

Personally, I would say be sure to check out Sasha's Involver and Invol2ver.  And of course Sasha and Digweed's Northern Exposure!  But that's my personal preference (although I have been in the scene since the very beginning).

If you like Oakenfold (I once saw him spin on 6 decks at a time) then I would say check out any of the Global Underground mixes.  You should love pretty much all of them.  If you like Ferry Corsten, you should love any of Armand Van Buuren's stuff.

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I really liked "Noisia - Split the Atom" but it is not strictly D&B. "High Contrast -Tough Guys Don't Dance" was another good EP from the last year or so. Black Sun Empire and Sub Focus also put out some massive EP's but the names escape me at the moment. A lot of people really like Pendulum, but it's not really my thing. My go to resource for all things new and nasty in the D&B world has to be dogsonacid.com, or beatport. Happy hunting, pm me if you want to look through my dropbox ;)

Edit: Completely forgot reddit. Check out:
www.reddit.com/r/dnb
as well.
