Jump Pads
Jump Pads are easy to make and a blast to
screw around with. They can really speed
up a map and even dominate the gameplay
as with maps like q3dm17.
First we need a place to jump to by making a little
platform along one of the walls in your map. Just
a simple brush to land on will do. The next step is
to make a brush on the floor directly in front of the
platform. It should be an even square that is lined
up with the floor like the screenshots below.
Once the platform and floor brush are in place the next
step is to texture the floor brush. Go up to the texture option
in the toolbar and load the 'sfx' section. Scroll down through
the textures and select any of jump pad images provided.
Use the surface inspector by hitting 's' to line up the texture
on what will be the jump pad. The next step is to tell the game
engine that your newly created brush is an actual jump pad.
Draw another brush over the existing jump pad brush that
overlaps it by two or three units. It should be flush with the
floor and cover the jump pad brush completely. Now go up
to the texture option on the toolbar and load the 'common'
option. Now with the covering brush still highlighted choose
the texture called 'trigger'. It should be yellowish with the
word 'trigger' all over it. Now it's time to turn that trigger
brush into a jump pad.
