Modeling with Prefabs
In this tutorial we'll make a street lamp and
then save it as a prefab model using Radiant.
Prefabs are a neat way to add more complex architecture
to your map in the way of light sources, vehichles, or just
eye candy. We'll make a basic street lamp to demonstrate
how the feature works in Radiant. Create the base by using
a nine sided brush with a height of around eight units.
Then place a six sided brush on top with the same height.
Now use a basic four sided brush on the last brush and
lengthen it vertically using the z-axis window. Now use
the edge tool to draw all four sides of the brush in at the
top. Hit 'e' to activate the tool and just pull the blue dots
leaving a space of around ten units square. Now create
another brush that will hold our light above the main
pole. Use the free rotate button on the tool bar to angle
the brush like the picture below and make sure the
base dimension is the same as the top of the pole. Use
the edge tool again to line up the corners so that the
two brushes line up perfectly.
This will act as the base for our street lamp and now
on to the joy of illuminating this object.
